The Village of Darien has made it a priority to revitalize the downtown area in recent years. The initial plan was to construct a new Village Hall downtown to encourage further development and investment by residents and business owners. Kapur assisted the Village in acquiring grants for the project from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC).

Following the successful construction of the Village Hall, Kapur continued to play a major role assisting the Village with further improvements to the downtown area by completing design for a full reconstruction of their main area of commerce, Wisconsin Street. This project includes reconciling years of maintenance and small projects that resulted in a broken and dysfunctional facility for pedestrians and traffic. The new design provides a welcoming and seamless transition across the historic commerce area for parking, traffic, and foot-travelers, finally removing the stepped sidewalk throughout downtown that created hazards and liabilities over the years. This new, inviting look and feel of the historic business district promotes continued prosperity for the Village as they continue to build upon their “small town” tourism initiative.

Kapur staff members have also greatly aided the scalability and usability of the Village GIS. Congratulations to the Village on their progress to date  – we encourage you to stop by and take a look and we look forward to continuing to provide valuable improvements to the Village of Darien.
