A major project at O’Hare International Airport, this 60 ft diameter sunken pump station, the concrete spillway and the intake structures were all controlled horizontally and vertically by Kapur, starting with the primary and secondary caisson placement portion of the pump station.
With tight tolerances for the sheet piling and alignment ring, accurate and dependable survey was a must. Elevation was also a primary concern because of the “excavate and settle” construction method, where constant live grades were a necessity to ensure success.
