Survey Projects
MMSD/Veolia Landfill
Gas Pipeline
Muskego to Milwaukee, WI
The Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District and Veolia Environmental Services created a joint venture to construct a low-pressure gas pipeline.
Before construction could begin to transport landfill gas to the Jones Island Water Reclamation Facility, a full survey and utility “Plat” had to be created to give the pipeline a legal route to. Because of the tight project schedule, Kapur was obtained by CDM to create 3D modeling for utility conflicts along all 5 segments of the huge $80 million project and coordinate all survey and control amongst the four firms doing work on the project. Once all conflicts were recognized, Kapur helped the joint venture minimize takings and easements necessary to transport the gas; more than 95% of the pipeline work will be done in the existing Right-of-Way.
The estimated $80 million effort, one of the largest green energy projects in the state, is expected to save MMSD customers around $148 million over 20 years while providing an alternative, environmentally beneficial power source for Jones Island.
